Bellevue, WA
Longboat Reed Rookery
30' l x 8's x 9'h; Mixed Media; ©2009
A traditional “longboat”/nest form woven from the materials inside the walls and floors of buildings reveal the hidden macro infrastructure of buildings that is rarely seen. Previously existing wetlands at this site were once filled with giant reeds and great heron’s nests and LRR contrasts that “nature” with the city’s current high-tech reputation. The wrought iron worked spine of the boat is coated with the same silver paint as the ROOT that is located just upstairs.
